Google's March 2024 and follow-up 2025 updates suppressed an extraordinary volume of AI-generated content — not because it was AI, but because it was thin, undifferentiated, and added nothing to the corpus. Where humans still win

Original opinion, controversial takes, lived experience, real interviews, original data, and the editorial judgement to know which 30% of a draft to delete. None of those can be outsourced to a model in 2026, and none of them will be in 2027 either.

Strategist defines angle and thesis. AI assists with research compression. Senior writer drafts, with AI editing assistance. Strategist edits for opinion, structure, and originality. Subject-matter expert reviews for accuracy. AI assists with alt text, meta, and internal-link suggestions. Human ships.

The disclosure question

Disclose AI assistance where it materially shaped the content — readers are increasingly literate and trust matters. Where AI was only an editing or research aid, treat it like spell-check: tools, not authors.
